01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
Situated on the 2nd floor of a building along Akabane LaLa Garden, Dining&Bar Rui combines the welcoming ease of an izakaya with meticulous culinary preparation. Stepping through the noren curtain reveals an open, spotless kitchen and a calm, unhurried dining room.
Seasonal fresh seafood, changing daily, immediately draws the eye. Drawing on a family background in the fish trade in Akabane, the owner applies a practiced eye to sourcing. Lunchtime sashimi sets feature generous selections of fatty, pristine cuts alongside fish-broth miso soup and rice. Natural southern bluefin tuna, including lean akami and medium-fatty chutoro, lets fish lovers appreciate pristine maritime depth.
Alongside the seafood, labor-intensive meat dishes have built an equally loyal following. The thick-cut cutlet curry, featuring pork from Gunma Prefecture, pairs an airy, crunchy breading with tender meat and an aromatic, slightly nostalgic curry sauce for a hearty plate. Hand-breaded and carefully cooked, this loin katsu satisfies equally well at lunch or as a robust evening meal.
In the evening, the kitchen turns out classic drinking snacks: dashi-rolled omelets flavorful enough to enjoy without soy sauce, gently simmered taro that retains pleasant texture, and generously portioned, fragrant grilled fish. Enjoyed with draft beer, wine, or carefully selected shochu across the counter, the cooking makes for a mellow, satisfying end to the day.
